Review : TWSC affiliate Lite 3.02 PHP script - courtesy of Mr. Robert Evans Over the last couple of years the TWSC Affiliate Lite PHP script has grown in stature. Created by a small team of South African programmers headed by Willie Smith, this powerful script has undergone extensive testing at every new level and must now be considered one of the best (and most affordable) scripts currently available for the budding affiliate program owner.
I first started trying this script in May 2003, around the time that Version 2.1 was released. I purchased it because at that time I was trying various scripts and this was one of about four or five. Like all new or upgraded products, there were one or two bugs that needed ironing out before I could use TWSC with confidence. The other scripts I tried had all been around for some time, but were not being upgraded. It seemed that the creators of these scripts had decided that they were pleased with their efforts and either didn't want to develop them further, or lacked the necessary skills to do so. TWSC Version 2.1 was the reseller package (multiple user license), which meant that I could sell Version 2.0 (single user license). This has turned out to be a very good deal, as the reseller status continues with every new and improved version of the product, which is, as I write this, in now Version 3.02. To be perfectly honest with you, it is difficult to see by how much they can improve on the current version. The list of features that make this an extremely powerful script for the price, would stretch the length of an A5 sheet of paper. Some of these features include unlimited affiliates, unlimited products, PayPal IPN integration, multiple personalisation fields in the affiliate mass mailer, email notification when an attempt is made to fraudulently obtain the script (reseller version only), very simple installation (it is possible to be up and running within minutes of purchasing it). One of the coolest 'minor' features of TWSC is that the download link to your copy, which contains the initial files in zipped format, all personalised with your details, is emailed to you just a few minutes after you complete your payment. This might seem like a trivial matter - so what, they send the product via email. But I think that the fact that you are able to download a personalised zipped file just minutes after purchase is really very clever, and shows they are not only serious about the development of their product - but are also serious about Customer Satisfaction! The script uses cookies to track affiliate sales, and if you are using PayPal or StormPay as your payment processor, it is a very simple task to add a line of code to the payment button. The affiliate's ID Number then shows up in the notification emails you get after a purchase is made via their promotional efforts. You can also add code to your HTML to show the name of the affiliate on any of your web pages that have a .php extension. Another neat feature is the Products and Services Commission Schedule, which a potential affiliate can view before signing up. This is a breakdown of the products they can earn commission on, and the amount they can earn per sale. Affiliates only promote ONE URL. Version 3.02 also features an automatic updater, which means that you don't need to keep on downloading and installing future upgrades of the script. Another added feature is the ability to change the target URL for affiliates to promote. In earlier versions, it was not possible to change this URL so that all affiliates could promote the same URL (people who had signed up earlier were restricted to the one URL).
